At the time of its launch, the 959 was arguably the most technically advanced production car in the world, pairing a 450-horsepower twin-turbocharged flat-six with a variable all-wheel drive system that could distribute torque electronically between axles. The Sport variant shed around 100 kilograms by removing insulation and comfort equipment, and only around 20 examples were ever built.
